We regret to inform you that Sgt. David B. Miller (Ret.) is on hospice care. Sgt. Miller served with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department for 30 years – from 1964 to 1994.
You’re encouraged to come support one of your own, his wife and their young family during this very difficult time.
The Orange County Registrar of Voters has confirmed that incumbent Roger Hilton has won the OCERS Board of Retirement Safety Member election. The unofficial cumulative report shows that the AOCDS 1st vice president received nearly 64% of the votes. His challenger, OC firefighter Jeremy Vallone, received about 36%.
This coming week, the AOCDS medical and benefits staff will be available to assist you with all your medical insurance and benefit needs. Open Enrollment will be held at the AOCDS office located at 1600 N. Main Street in Santa Ana (enter on N. Sycamore Street). Please note: the AOCDS benefit website is available 24/7 during this time frame to make any necessary changes.
Several Orange County sheriff’s deputies were honored Friday with awards for their courage in 2017, including some who helped victims and were wounded during the deadly Las Vegas shooting in October.
The Medal of Valor ceremony was held at the Hotel Irvine where 27 deputies were honored, 14 of whom got the Medal for Lifesaving and six who received the Medal of Merit.
We are deeply saddened to inform you that Investigator Adam Sandler’s (Criminal Investigations Bureau) wife has passed away. Holly suffered a significant stroke in late March and had been on hospice since Friday. She passed away yesterday morning.

AOCDS 1st Vice President Roger Hilton is the incumbent and is being challenged by an OC firefighter, so it is crucial that you vote for Roger Hilton and return your postage-paid ballot as soon as you receive it.
Today, after more than two years of intense scrutiny and false blame, now retired Orange County D.A. investigator Dillon Alley was vindicated in an incident, where he was attacked by a criminal defense attorney in a courthouse hallway on March 9, 2016. A jury awarded Alley $250,000 in punitive damages.
I am pleased to announce that Francisco Ochoa has been appointed by the AOCDS Board of Directors as the newest board member from our recently added bargaining units consisting of probation officers, Sheriff-Coroner investigators, public assistance investigators and park rangers.

The AOCDS Memorial Fund assists peace officers or the families of officers who are killed or injured in the line of duty, suffering from a serious medical condition, experiencing a catastrophic circumstance, disabled, or retired and in need of assistance. This includes, but is not limited to, sworn deputy sheriffs or peace officers with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, district attorney’s office, probation department and OC Parks. The fund also helps qualifying officers across the state of California and awards annual scholarships to select children of members entering their first year at a college or university, among many other things.
The AOCDS Memorial Fund is a fully recognized 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
