Re: Deadly Colorado Deputy Shooting
Date: January 5, 2018
The deadly deputy shooting on Sunday in Douglas County, Colorado hits closer to home than we first realized. Deputy Zackari Parrish, the deputy killed, was actually the area partner of former Orange County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Steve Maracine. Deputy Maracine lateraled to Douglas County about seven months ago and the two trained together. Steve has two brothers with OCSD, Deputy Peter Maracine and Florin Maracine, a nurse. Both work at IRC.
The ambush attack took place on the morning of New Year’s Eve after four deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call. Douglas County Sheriff Tony Spurlock said the gunman knew the deputies were coming. Spurlock says once they entered the apartment, the suspect barricaded himself inside a bedroom and used a rifle to fire at least 100 rounds at the deputies. Deputy Parrish was killed. The other three deputies were shot but are expected to recover. A police officer and two people in neighboring apartments were also wounded.
Deputy Parrish was 29 years old. He is survived by his wife, Gracie, and two young daughters. If you would like to donate to the family, please click on the link below:
