Twenty-two years ago today, nearly 3,000 people were killed in the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Seventy-two law enforcement officers died that day in the assault on our country. Sadly, hundreds more have passed away since then from exposure to toxic materials – and unfortunately, that number continues to rise.
Every year on September 11th, the United States recognizes Patriot Day to honor all those who lost their lives as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. In accordance with the Patriot Day law, all Orange County Sheriff’s Department facilities will fly their flags at half-staff today, Monday, September 11, 2023.
We must always remember and honor the lives that were lost and the sacrifices that were made on that fateful day. Be vigilant and be safe.
