Honoring Sgt. Ron Helus and Other Thousand Oaks Shooting Victims

This is a tragic day, one that has become far too common. A gunman opened fire last night at the Borderline Bar & Grill in Thousand Oaks. The shooter killed 12 people, including Sheriff’s Sgt. Ron Helus from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department. Sgt. Helus was a 29-year law enforcement veteran, who was set to retire soon. Helus entered that bar with the intention of saving lives and sadly lost his own life in doing so. He is a true hero and will always be remembered as such.

Workers’ Comp Reform Approved for OC Peace Officers Saving Taxpayer Dollars

After lengthy negotiations, we are pleased to announce that the Association of Orange County Deputy Sheriffs (AOCDS) and Orange County Board of Supervisors have reached an agreement to introduce an innovative workers’ compensation Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) program. This will give our county law enforcement officers and deputies the health care they deserve while helping Orange County save taxpayer dollars.

Deputy Runs Across Michigan Honoring Fallen Officers

Matt Gabrino ran the full 160 miles across the state, starting at the Fallen Heroes Monument in Oakland County and working his way west, ending Thursday at the Protectors Monument in front of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office in West Olive.

The AOCDS Board and Political Action Committee (PAC) met after the live broadcast of the AOCDS Sheriff’s Candidate Forum. Both candidates, Undersheriff Don Barnes and Aliso Viejo Mayor Dave Harrington, were interviewed by a panel of four and invited to share additional comments from a questionnaire they submitted.

Deputy Ron Dunlap (Ret.) – A Celebration of Life

You are invited to A Celebration of Life service in remembrance of Deputy Ronald Howard Dunlap. Deputy Dunlap passed away peacefully earlier this month after a five-month battle with an extremely vicious form of bile duct cancer. Please join his wife, Ellen, and adult daughter, Erin, as the family celebrates Ron’s 65 years of joy, honor and strength.
